It is very difficult to diagnose psychiatric disorders reliably, especially in early course. However, such early diagnosis is critical for producing an effective treatment. This has motivated many researchers to apply machine learning approaches to neuroimaging data, to produce multi-dimensional, data-driven models that capture the level of complexity necessary for aiding diagnosis, and prognosis in an objective manner. Inspired by these, I have studied various ways of applying machine learning methods  for predicting the diagnosis and prognosis of psychiatric disorders. I believe this could be greatly beneficial, as it can help doctors correctly make important clinical decisions -- such as ‘which diagnosis to assign’ or ‘what drug to prescribe’.
